What to Look for When Choosing an AI Answering Service in 2026

Ignore the demo that can talk about anything. Buy the one that will only talk about you.

The checks that matter

Can it greet with your name and your real open or closed status. Can it answer only from notes you control. Can it take a message with a callback number. Can it transfer to a person or a department when you say it may, and refuse the transfer when the office is shut. Can a later question stay on the same business for the whole call.

Ask to hear it say 'I don't have that.' If the demo fills silence with a confident invention, it will do that to your customers.

Everything else is a connection

Scheduling, texts, email, a kitchen ticket, a CRM note. Those are useful when the phone call has already done its job. They are not a substitute for a locked script and a knowledge note you can edit. Prefer a service that tells you what is ready now and what still needs a connection.
